Honoring Dr. Vasko
Dr. Susan Vasko co-founded CAPS and spent more than 30 years caring for patients in Columbus.
Trained in plastic surgery at The Ohio State University, she also held degrees in engineering and brought that problem-solver's eye to her work.
A board-certified plastic surgeon, she advanced the field through her own published research, and for more than 20 years led Ohio State's plastic surgery residency program at Riverside Methodist Hospital, helping train the next generation of surgeons.
Her patients remember her creativity, compassion, and the meticulous care she brought to every plan.

Book OnlineDr. Vasko is a proud Ohio native. She received her general surgery and residency training at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Vasko completed a highly competitive plastic surgery residency program at The Ohio State University.
Additionally, Dr. Vasko holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in engineering. She believes this unique background in problem-solving enhances her work as a plastic surgeon. Her understanding of material, function, beauty, and symmetry combined with an analytical approach to formulating a plan helps her meet each patient’s specific needs.
As a leader in her field, Dr. Vasko pioneered three advanced studies: one evaluating liposuction methods and research focused on infection prevention protocol utilizing tissue expanders during breast reconstruction. She presented the results of the liposuction study to her peers at the 2012 ASAPS meeting (the premier aesthetic meeting in the world) in Vancouver and at the 2012 Ohio Valley Society of Plastic Surgeons meeting. Dr. Vasko studied pain control after breast augmentation, presenting the results at the 2014 ASAPS meeting in San Francisco. This research was published in The Aesthetic Surgery Journal, the premier publication for aesthetic plastic surgery.
Dr. Vasko is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. As the renowned program director for over 20 years at Riverside Methodist Hospital for the Ohio State University plastic surgery residency program, she is committed to teaching our next generation of plastic surgeons.
Dr. Vasko is a charter member of the WeLead Steering Committee at Ohio Health promoting leadership roles for women physicians and is a member of WeLead BRG. She sits on the Executive Board for Simon Kenton Council for Scouts BSA and is proud to welcome girls into scouting. Additionally, she is a member of The Ohio State University’s Integrated Systems Engineering Advisory board.
When she is not with her patients, Dr. Vasko enjoys reading, needlepoint, and traveling. With a passion for adventure, she has climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, hiked in countries all over the world, and backpacked in the nation’s beautiful state parks.
Dr. Vasko enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, Mark, twin sons, and her sons’ growing families.
Dr. Vasko is involved in many charities in her local community. She is a founding member of the Upper Arlington Women’s Club, which provides humanitarian service-based scholarships to local students. She has been a volunteer for Stephanie Spielman’s Celebrate Life Tailgate, supporting breast cancer treatment, and is a eucharist minister at the Wexner Medical Center.
