Dr. John Wakelin combines an eye for aesthetics with exceptional surgical skill and a patient-centric approach. He appreciates the opportunity to work with many patients, both reconstructive and cosmetic, to guide them through an experience that has a positive impact on their lives.
In addition to his advanced medical training, Dr. Wakelin has a degree in philosophy and an interest in art and aesthetics. This unique background allows him to look holistically at a patient. He takes the time to listen and understand his patients to ensure their treatment plan will truly achieve their goals.

Dr. Wakelin completed his undergraduate degree at Xavier University, where, in addition to his interest in science, he earned a degree in philosophy. He trained in General Surgery Residency at Mount Carmel Medical Center and completed a highly competitive Plastic Surgery Residency at The Ohio State University Medical Center.
Dr. Wakelin was honored to be awarded the Residency teaching award by The Ohio State University in 2018. He is passionate about teaching our next generation of plastic surgeons and mentoring physicians with their practice, so they provide the best overall experience for their patients. Dr. Wakelin is committed to ensuring the patient experience is the best it can be, from beginning to end.
Today, Dr. Wakelin serves on the Clinical Faculty of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health, where he is proud to teach residents and medical students.
Dr. Wakelin is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and been named one of “America’s Top Plastic Surgeons” by the Consumer’s Research Council of America every year since 2006. He was part of a select group of plastic surgeons who completed advanced training in breast augmentation with Mentor Worldwide LLC, including topics on the Latest Technologies in Breast Implant Sizing and Advanced Techniques in Breast Augmentation and Revision Surgery.
Dr. Wakelin has served as the prestigious Chair of Plastic Surgery at Riverside Methodist Hospital and is committed to maintaining and staying up to date on the latest advancements in plastic surgery. He regularly attends conferences and is a respected educator among his peers.
Dr. Wakelin is married to Anupama Chauhan, MD., a renowned Rheumatologist. They enjoy time spent as a family, exploring the outdoors with their two children. He and his wife often cook together, from international cuisine to backyard grilling.
Dr. Wakelin likes to explore other countries and experience their culture. Among the places he has visited are East Africa, South and Central America, and Europe.
Dr. Wakelin is involved in several charitable organizations. He promotes the arts, education, and providing healthcare to underserved populations.
Dr. Wakelin has completed missions for Operation Smile in several developing countries, including Honduras, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Peru, Egypt, China, and Morocco. Passionate about helping others, he has performed life-changing reconstructive surgery on children and adults with cleft lips and palates.
